The project involves providing technical guidance to Nansen Environmental Research Centre (NERCI), Kerala, India for successful implementation of project titled "Water quality monitoring and low cost purification strategies for inland waterways of low lying areas" on behalf of UNEP and Asia Pacific Forum on Environment and Development (APFED) at IGES.
In this study, synthetic plastics-bioplastics blends would be prepared. A suitable compatibilizer would be synthesized so as to improve the dispersion of the filler in the matrix phase. Starch and chitosan based polymers with nanoclay reinforcements will be attempted. The mechanical, thermal and morphological studies will be carried out as per the ASTM standards.

The 4 Assessment Report of IPCC has conclusively said that climate is changing due to anthropogenic activities. Where as there are many studies on impact on humans and environment, the impact on the business sector and economy is restricted mainly to the study of deterioration of agriculture and resulting decline of GDP.
The study involves both quantitative and qualitative approaches. In the quantitative analysis, a time-series ecological study would be done with the pilot study sites serving as the unit of population. Regression analysis would be utilized for the years 1955-2005 to identify probable trends specific to the region.
