Green Shipping

The Green Shipping Program aims to drive the transformation of India’s maritime sector towards carbon neutrality and a circular economy through advanced research, policy innovation, and industry collaboration. The program focuses on developing sustainable and cleaner fuel technologies through biochemical and thermochemical pathways using second- and third-generation feedstocks for the production of green energy and materials. It also emphasizes the application of integrated assessment frameworks and life cycle tools to evaluate the sustainability and resource efficiency of emerging pathways. Aligned with Sustainable Development Goals 8.4 and 12, the program promotes sustainable consumption and production practices to ensure the responsible and efficient use of natural resources. In addition, the program seeks to build awareness and strengthen stakeholder capacities through targeted learning, training, and knowledge-sharing initiatives to support the green transition in the maritime sector and related industries.
