The Shore-to-Ship Power (SPS) Business Model project focuses on developing a scalable, techno-economically viable, and policy-relevant framework for implementing SPS systems across major Indian ports. SPS enables berthed vessels to shift from fossil-fuel-based auxiliary diesel generators to grid electricity, resulting in significant reductions in fuel costs and emissions. Using internationally benchmarkedtechno-economic methodologies such as capital recovery and discounted cash flow analysis, the project evaluates financialand environmentalfeasibility under Indian port conditions through key indicators including payback period and Internal Rate of Return (IRR). The business model, developed using administrative and vessel survey data from VOCPA, is designed to be bankable and adaptable for cross-port comparisons. The analysis includes a comparison of diesel and SPS electricity tariffs, estimation of emissions reduction benefits, assessment of carbon credit revenue potential, and evaluation of rebate and incentive mechanisms.

The findings indicate that SPS adoption leads to substantial cost savings, accelerated payback periods, improved IRR, and meaningful environmental benefits, particularly when carbon revenue and incentives are incorporated. Overall, the project provides a robust investment and policy framework to support widespread SPS deployment and advance India’s green port and maritime decarbonization objectives.
