In Eastern India, the states of West Bengal and Jharkhand have a large number of energy intensive metallurgical and engineering clusters and industrial parks. Industries like foundry, forging, steel rolling, wire drawing, galvanizing and other mixed engineering units are concentrated in this region. In addition, with high growth expected for engineering goods over the next 10 years, large capital expenditure is being planned by new industries being set-up in up-coming industrial parks, like the Foundry Park in Howrah.
The objective of this programme is to support the Global Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP)
agenda driven by the UN by supporting India in the implementation of this agenda and to promote EU
standards and business best practices on resource efficiency in this process.
The Specific Objective of the action is to make resource consumption more efficient in India, so as to
contribute to the global agenda on sustainable consumption and production, to promote green economy
FOLU India Sustainable Rainfed Agriculture Programme (FISRAP) is part of the FOLU Coalition and World Resources Institute programme – “Towards More Sustainable and Regenerative Rainfed Agriculture in India and Ethiopia - An effective approach to sustainably transform agricultural practices and deliver social and economic co-benefits”, a project supported by IKEA Foundation.
The Alliance to End Plastic Waste (AEPW) has joined hands with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH to support the reduction of plastic waste entering the environment of the two Ganga cities Haridwar and Rishikesh in Uttarakhand, India. The project Aviral aims at reducing plastic waste entering the city environment by strengthening an integrative and improved plastic waste management system.
A novel bioprocess development for lignin-rich bio-residue valorization to produce high-value/high-volume biochemicals and bioproducts. The model developed here will improve the sustainability of the 2G ethanol technology and offer an alternative solution to mitigate environmental pollution from rice straw burning in the fields. The detailed LCA and TEA of the optimized bench-scale bioprocess will evaluate the carbon footprint and economic viability of the technology.
The overall objective of the consultancy services is to facilitate GIZ and the project partners to take a decision on the scope of application of environmental technologies for reduction of air pollution.
Specific objectives of the consultancy services are to:
(a) collect information on the state of affairs concerning various relevant Work Packages of the project in the three selected cities;
The India-EU Track-II dialogue aims to explore options for strengthening both parties’ cooperation in the reduction of greenhouse gases and enhancing resilience to climate change.
The project aims to design a school education programme for students of grades 6-8 to generate awareness on treated wastewater use and it potential for water sustainability.
Frost & Sullivan and TERI present the Sustainability 4.0 Awards that aims to highlight the need for linkages between an organization's strategy, governance & financial performance and the social, environmental & economic context within which it operates. This program enables businesses to take more logical & sustainable decisions that ensure long-term stakeholder value.
Historically, IR has been the main mode of moving freight traffic in India, almost 85% of freight traffic was transported by rail in 1950. However, this trend has seen a major reversal in recent years with the growth of the trucking industry. Although the freight turnaround has been on a rise, the share of Railways in total land freight transport has come down from 39% in 2000-01 to 26% in 2017-18 and is likely to decline in near future.
