Agri-Photovoltaics (AgriPV): Harmonizing Energy and Food Security
Agri-Photovoltaics (AgriPV) offers a land-efficient pathway for sustainable development by enabling the co-location of solar power generation and crop cultivation. This dual-use approach facilitates renewable energy expansion without displacing vital farmland or compromising national food security.
This project was a multi-country initiative. It focused on advancing BIPV adoption across the Global South through technical assessment, policy analysis, stakeholder engagement, and capacity building, enabling climate-responsive urban energy transition pathways. The following are the activities performed under this project:-
Mission for High Impact Areas (MAHA): Advancing EV Mobility in India
The Mission for High Impact Areas (MAHA) program, under the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), is a priority-driven initiative designed to address urgent scientific and technological challenges through targeted, high-impact solutions. Unlike general research mandates, MAHA fosters a collaborative ecosystem, bringing together researchers and academicians from diverse fields to leverage collective expertise, drive innovation, and deliver tangible results.
A digital twin is a dynamic, real-time replica of the physical distribution grid. It brings together data from various sources to provide a comprehensive view of power flows, and grid behaviours. This project will be the first demonstration in India, at a useful scale, of applying cloud-based digital twin technology to an electrical distribution grid. The aim is to improve the reliability and cost-effectiveness of an emerging economy distribution network. The pilot is taking place in Delhi under the BRPL licensee region.
UI-ASSIST project, funded by Department of Energy (DoE) on US side, and Department of Science and Technology (DST) through Indo-US Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF) on India side under the Joint Clean Energy Research and Development Center (JCERDC), addresses key issues related to the adoption and deployment of active distribution networks, integrating distributed energy resources including Battery Energy Storage in the network.
Just Transition Framework for a Sustainable Future in India’s Coal Mining Regions
As India's energy mix diversifies, there is increasing attention on achieving a fair and equitable transition that considers the impacts on workers, communities, the environment, and related industries. To address this, TERI has developed a Just Transition Framework, informed by extensive research in India's eastern coal-belt and engagement with diverse stakeholders.
