The objective of this project is to produce a high added value product (activated carbon) from waste agriculture by-products (bagasse and rice husk) through technology transfer from the European Union. Tests would be done in waste streams of the local and related industries. Technical information and test outcomes would be disseminated to the local SMEs (small and medium enterprises), local industries, and the environmental bodies.

The study aims at inventorisation of air pollutant emissions of different pollutants from various sources in Faridabad. The sources of emissions would include vehicles, industries, power plants, domestic fuel burning, DG sets etc.

This project is part of the NWDPRA (National Watershed Development Programme for Rainfed areas) of the Government of India. The villages covered in this project are in Bicholim Taluka, North Goa. The project involves the people's participation to develop land and water resources for enhancing productivity in rainfed areas on a sustainable basis.

The overall objective of the system is to automate the process flow of existing Project Accounting and Monitoring System (PAMS) for effective planning, tracking and reporting of projects at TISS. The scope of the system starts from project initiation, which includes activity scheduling, budgeting, grant schedule, project monitoring etc. till project completion. This will allow users to perform their activities, retrieve necessary information on demand and generate effective MIS reports as per their profiles.

TERI will jointly organise an international conference on "Energy, environment, and development - analysing opportunities for reducing poverty" with the Veolia Environment Institute in December 2006. The conference will focus on challenges for sustainable development that arise from the nexus between energy, environment, and poverty. It will provide an opportunity for policymakers, practitioners, researchers, and the donor community to engage in constructive dialogue on possible solutions.

This project is being undertaken in association with the World Bank, Department for International Development, and the Competition Commission of India. The main objective of this project is to understand competition-related issues in the energy sector in India. The project involves a detailed study of key policies and regulations in the sector and their likely impacts on competition in the energy sub-sectors viz. electricity, oil, gas, and coal.

A Code of Ethics is a means of uniquely expressing a group's collective commitment to a specific set of morally permissible standards of conduct while offering guidance on how to best follow those codes. Code of ethics could comprise of the code of Ethics for the institution (for example on parameters such as transparency, consistency, etc) as whole as well as for the members of the institutions individually as well as severally.

TERI was selected by the Ministry of Environment and Forests to conduct a one-week training course for Indian Forest Service officers on "Development of Clean Development Mechanism Projects under Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry: Theory and Practice."
The course started with a background on the science of Global Warming and Climate Change; response of International community-UNFCCC (1) Kyoto Protocol and Marrakesh Accord (2) Latest Negotiations under COP; and the Indian perspective of the Climate Change Negotiations.

Integrated Water Management for upcoming large textile dyeing industry in southern India involved to look in to every aspect of water and wastewater. The critical evaluation of ETP design for zero discharge with a key objective of recommending suitable technology with optmised initial investment and operating expenses. Conceptual design of rain water harvesting system to tap the rain water and also a review of water treatment adequacy for process and other applications will be carried out.

At Gleneagles in July 2005, the G8 highlighted the importance of strengthening technology cooperation to develop low carbon energy options. Many developing countries pressed for a new approach to international cooperation in the area of clean energy technologies. As a follow-up to this, the UK Government and the GoI have decided to collaborate on a study to assess the barriers to the transfer of low carbon energy technology between developed and developing countries.
