At a time when air pollution has become a leading environmental threat to public health, TERI's Director-General, Dr Ajay Mathur, said that India's dependence on thermal power would end by 2050. Dr Mathur, in an interview with the newspaper, said solar batteries would become cheaper than coal by the mid-2020s and nuclear power is not economically viable for the country now.

A study conducted by TERI in 2014 revealed that cycle ownership in Bengaluru has reduced from 29% in 2001 to 23% in 2011. However, experts say dockless cycles are likely to become popular because of the city's pleasant climate, clogged roads and expansion of cycle tracks.
