Ford joins voluntary greenhouse gas reporting in India

US car-maker Ford Motor Co. has joined a recently established voluntary greenhouse gas reporting programme in India. The programme is a joint effort between the World Resources Institute, TERI and the Confederation of Indian Industry.

There was a possibility of a flood-like situation occurring in the low-lying areas of Mumbai, the Maharashtra government told the state Legislative Council, citing a TERI report. In his written reply to a question raised by an NCP legislator about the possibility of a 26 July 2005 type flood striking Mumbai again, State Environment Minister Mr Sanjay Deotale informed the House that TERI has warned about a possible recurrence in its primary report submitted to the state government.

The Gujarat state education department has decided to develop new schools and subsequently convert existing ones into environment friendly 'green schools' in order to improve retention and enrolment in government schools. Initially, ten new green schools will be developed in ten districts in 2013-14 at a cost of Rs 17.6 crore. These schools will be rated according to the national rating system for green buildings, Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA).
