Advisory services for energy efficiency in the proposed shopping mall at Jalandhar

The Viva Collage Group has proposed a retail destination at Jallandhar. The Group seeks to achieve a certain salience for the Viva Collage developments and take pioneering initiatives towards integration of environmentally sustainable features in their building design. TERI would provide advisory services to achieve energy efficieny and make design recommendations with incremental capex and customer satisfaction (in terms of achieving comfortable indoor conditions within the mall) as important parameters to achieve efficiency.

Eco-housing training module for various stakeholders.

This project aims at developing three separate training modules based on eco-housing assessment criteria for three stakeholder groups - customers, enablers, and decision-makers as shown below. The training modules will be a combination of classroom sessions, site visits, and project work.
Modules for all three stakeholder groups will cover the following aspects of eco-housing technical assessment criteria including economic, environmental, and social considerations:
a. Sustainable site planning

Information brochure (for public dissemination) for energy efficiency in new homes and existing homes.

-- Formulate the set of "Design guidelines for energy efficient buildings", and print 1000 copies of the Guidelines -- Prepare another set of guidelines easy to adopt, well illustrated and understandable by common man in the form of "Home owners information brochure". It would guide home owners to achieve energy efficiency in existing homes with ensured reduction in electricity consumption. These guidelines would also be printed in form of brochure, and 1000 copies of the same would be printed.

Development and bio-diversity in East Africa and India

The main objectives of this research project are (1) systematic evaluation of institutional performance in and around four protected areas in Kenya, Tanzania, and two states in India with regard to human development (with a focus on poverty reduction), and biodiversity protection; (2) to find how the relationship between conservation and the village economy has developed over time.

Building awareness on energy conservation

Recognizing the importance of inculcating among school children and teachers a sense of respect and responsibility towards energy conservation and its efficient use TERI implemented a pilot project, in 30 elite schools in Delhi, supported by Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power. The target group was so chosen as this segment of society, along with their families and peers, are the major energy consumer defaulters, in contrast to the poorer section of society, which utilize energy only for their basic sustenance. Microbial diversity of hyper thermophilic sulphate reducing bacteria in oil reservoirs of OIL and their control

Souring of oil wells due to SRB (sulphate reducing bacteria) is a common problem faced by the oil industries and it leads to huge economical losses. Large amount of formation water is generated along with the production of crude oil at the Oil India Ltd. This formation water is reinjected into abandoned oil wells after primary treatment. However, due to the high biomass of SRB in formation water, reinjection is difficult and reinjection leads to souring of the oil wells. The objective of the project is to identify all the species of SRB in formation water and its characterization.

Introduction of sustainable biomass energy technologies in PoP (plaster of paris)-making industries with potentially high impact in India under the Sustainable Energy Project Support

The objective of the project is to demonstrate and disseminate biomass gasifiers that encourage the use of these systems and energy services in the PoP-making industries. Based on the nature of this sector, it is envisaged that biomass gasifiers will be immediately promoted and installed with a joint financial mechanism (support from WISIONS, subsidy from government, and contribution from users). These biomass gasifiers will not only help in improving the energy efficiency but will also help in improving the working environment, productivity, and perhaps, quality of product.
