TERI has played a central role in advancing India’s critical minerals agenda through its extensive policy, research, and stakeholder engagement contributions. Under the National Critical Mineral Mission, TERI drafted, validated, and finalized the Mission document that was approved by the Cabinet in January 2025.
The center prepares annual air and water quality status reports for the state of Maharashtra, a project being sponsored by the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB). MPCB regularly monitors the qualitative state of the water resources across the state as well as the air quality across various locations in the state.
In an era where the impacts of climate change are increasingly visible and urgent, empowering the next generation to lead climate action is more critical than ever. Knowledge to Action: Empowering Youth Climate Innovators is a collaborative initiative by HCLFoundation and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), implemented under “Harit”, HCLFoundation’s flagship climate action programme.
Urbanisation is accelerating across the globe, with cities emerging as magnets for growth, jobs, and opportunity. India, now the most populous nation, is witnessing a surge in urban population and infrastructure demands. As urban areas expand, emissions from sectors like transport are rising rapidly, threatening local air quality and public health.
Project Overview: Developing Voluntary Carbon Market Projects for Agroforestry Plantations in Aligarh Forest Circle
The Aligarh Forest Circle Agroforestry Initiative is a carbon finance project designed to bridge the gap between climate mitigation and rural economic development.
The project is designed to promote sustainable agroforestry by encouraging tree plantation on agricultural lands, while generating measurable climate mitigation benefits and enhancing rural livelihoods.
The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), in partnership with the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB), Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC), and other local stakeholders, is implementing an initiative to plan and develop Clean Air Zones (CAZs) in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP).
Strengthening India’s Innovation Ecosystem: The National S&T Survey
The National Science and Technology (S&T) Survey is a flagship initiative designed to systematically map the resources fueling India’s research and development (R&D) landscape.
The development of a detailed CAZ (clean air zone) plan would focus on measures related to traffic and transportation (such as pedestrianization, cycle tracks, and EV mobility), urban planning (land use plans, heritage conservation), emission control, air quality monitoring and dust control.
