Expressing concern at the mounting environmental challenges, global thought leaders unanimously emphasised on the need to adopt resource-efficient innovations at the final session of the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit 2013 today. The Summit, organised annually by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) since 2001, provided an international platform for comprehensive discussion on issues pertaining to resource efficiency, climate change, clean energy and sustainable development.
The Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Dr Manmohan Singh, inaugurated the 13th Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS) 2013 organised by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) today at the Taj Palace Hotel.Over the years, Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS) has evolved as a global platform that addresses the key challenges of sustainable development and explores the means by which this can be attained. In its 13th edition, DSDS focusses on the theme, ‘The Global Challenge of Resource-Efficient Growth and Development”.
Featuring over 150 corporate leaders and eminent thought-leaders, the 10th annual World CEO Sustainability Summit (WCSS) witnessed insightful discussions on "Resource Revolution: A global imperative and how business can shape it" today. Organised by The Energy and Resources Institute -Business Council for Sustainable development (TERI-BCSD), in association with the WBCSD (World Business Council for Sustainable Development), Geneva, the Summit witnessed corporate leaders and chief sustainability officers discussing ways to mainstream sustainability in business practices.
In an endeavor to develop alternative methods to create a sustainable future through specialized education, TERI University graduates today at their convocation ceremony, pledged to uphold the noble cause of environmental protection and the need to maintain equity, ecological security, and the wealth of global natural resources. TERI University held its fifth convocation ceremony today, where 6 students were conferred doctoral degrees and 248 received master's degrees from the university.
In a major announcement, The Energy and Resources Institute(TERI) has been ranked 7th in the top 20 Energy and Resource Policy Think Tanks by the University of Pennsylvania's Think Tanks and Civil Society Program.
In an endeavor to bring the knowledge and experience generated through the ACCCRN initiative, and explore synergies with similar other initiatives, TERI in association with Rockefeller Foundation today organized an International Workshop on “Resilient Cities- Experiences from ACCCRN in Asia and Beyond” under the aegis of its annual flagship event, Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS) 2013. Recognising the role of young minds in shaping the global environmental agenda, The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, TETRA Pak, RCE, British Council and other partners successfully launched the two-day YUVA Meet 2013 today on the theme, “Green Growth-Preparing Youth for Sustainable Living.” Held as a special event of the upcoming Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS) 2013, the 5th YUVA (Youth Unite for Voluntary Action) Meet seeks to encourage young individuals to contribute their bit for a sustainable future.
Shri Reddy inaugurated Asia’s maiden International Conference on Mycorrhiza, ICOM 7 organized by TERI, themed “Mycorrhiza for All: An Under-Earth Revolution”. The five-day conference aims to explore ways to minimise the usage of chemical fertilisers on soil, while covering various aspects of mycorrhizal symbioses. He also launched the seed coating technology which is an extension of the mass production technology of mycorrhiza that was launched in the year 1999 and licensed to many industries in India and in North America.
The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) inaugurated its Nordic office at the Joensuu campus of the University of Eastern Finland earlier this week. Present at the ceremony were the Indian Ambassador to Finland, H.E. Ambassador Manickam; Dr. R. K. Pachauri, Director General of TERI; Director of the University Board, Dr. Elli Aaltonen; Director of the Finnish Forest Development Centre TAPIO, Dr. Ritva Toivonen; University Rector, Dr. Perttu Vartiainen; and Prof. Liisa Tahvanainen. Myanmar's pro-democracy crusader, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi underscored the need to protect natural resources from the adverse impacts of urbanisation during her maiden visit to The Energy and Resources Institute's (TERI) campus here today.
