Water Sustainability Awards 2024-25
Water is fundamental to life, shaping economic growth, social progress, and scientific advancements. In India, it supports over 70% of the population engaged in agriculture and plays a crucial role in industries such as textiles, leather, and food processing. Beyond its economic impact, water is essential for food security, energy security, and public health, making it a cornerstone of sustainable development.
Recognizing the critical link between water and sustainable development, the United Nations has highlighted water as a key priority within the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Goal 6 of the SDGs—Clean Water and Sanitation for All—outlines specific targets to be achieved by 2030, emphasizing the interconnections between water security and broader sustainability objectives.
The Water Sustainability Awards (WSA) have been established to encourage progress toward SDG 6 by promoting water stewardship and recognizing efforts to reduce water footprints through a ‘water neutrality’ approach. Over the years, the awards have become a prestigious platform for celebrating excellence in sustainable water management practices across India.
Now in its 4th edition, the Water Sustainability Awards 2025, organized by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in association with UNDP India and endorsed by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, honor exemplary contributions across eight key categories of SDG 6, including water for all, sanitation for all, wastewater treatment & safe reuse, excellence in water use efficiency, excellence in participatory water management, protecting & restoring community water structures, promoting water cooperation, and innovation in water technology.
The awards recognize individuals, organizations, industries, municipal boards, village panchayats, and civil society groups that are driving transformative, impactful, and innovative approaches to sustainable water management. The event will serve as a dynamic platform for knowledge sharing and collaboration among policymakers, industry leaders, and sustainability experts committed to advancing SDG 6.
