The Watershed Development Component of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (WDC-PMKSY) is a flagship Centrally Sponsored Scheme initiated in 2015-16 to transform India's rainfed and degraded landscapes. In December 2021, the Government of India launched the second phase, WDC-PMKSY 2.0, extending the project period through 2026. This evolved framework shifts focus toward biological measures and integrated ecological restoration.
This project aims to develop a comprehensive, globally benchmarked roadmap to position India as a leader in sustainable ship recycling by 2047. Aligned with the national maritime vision and international conventions, the initiative addresses the critical need for environmentally responsible and socially inclusive end-of-life ship management.
Promoting decentralized renewable energy solutions in the rural and off-grid regions offers a transformative path forward. By providing reliable, clean power, the rural livelihoods-based enterprises can boost their efficiencies, cut expenses, promote environmental sustainability, and strengthen their income.
Forest fires across the Hindu Kush Himalaya are becoming a growing regional concern due to the combined effects of prolonged dry spells, changing fuel conditions, forest composition, and human ignition pressure along forest–settlement and forest–agriculture interfaces. In mountain terrain, steep slopes, poor accessibility, dispersed settlements, and seasonal water scarcity make suppression-heavy approaches increasingly costly and less effective.
NTPC Limited engaged TERI for the revival, modification, and commissioning of an existing biomethanation plant at its Faridabad facility. The project aimed to restore the plant's functionality, enhance its operational efficiency, and align it with advanced technologies to enable the effective conversion of organic waste into renewable energy and value-added by-products.
India achieved near-universal household electrification under the SAUBHAGYA scheme by 2019. However, remote regions such as the northeast, tribal forest areas, and desert communities still face unreliable, low-quality power due to weak infrastructure and challenging geography. Frequent power disruptions affect essential household services, including lighting, cooling, and communication. They also hinder energy-dependent livelihoods, limiting productivity, income generation, and rural development.
The DBT-led Biotech-KISAN initiative bridges the gap between scientific research and farming communities by promoting location-specific, technology-driven agricultural practices. TERI–North Eastern Regional Centre (TERI-NERC) functioned as a Biotech-KISAN Hub, focusing on field-level demonstrations and farmer capacity building.
The programme was implemented across Assam and Meghalaya, covering 39 villages in seven districts, including aspirational districts of Darrang and Dhubri. It established 367 demonstration plots over 56 acres, directly benefiting 228 farmers.
