Developing action and monitoring plan for reclamation of mine-degraded lands and addressing socio-economic and livelihood issues of fringe populations of Vastan Lignite Mine of GIPCL, Mangrol, Surat
The project largely focuses on developing action plans for regeneration of mine-degraded areas. In the first phase of the project, through experiments, interventions in agriculture and forestry aspects, mainly to choose the best crop or forestry species combination to replicate at a larger scale will be attempted. Once it is done, involvement of the local people will be incorporated to explore the potential of livelihood generation for the fringe population. In addition, the scope of the project also includes capacity building of the local NGO, DEEP, which is acting as a facilitator at the moment.
