TERI Powers Up Delhi’s Classrooms: Teachers Trained as Energy Champions as Part of EN-Powered Schools Phase III

Two-day Teachers’ Training Programme at India International Centre equips educators to carry energy literacy, school audits, and climate action into the classroom

New Delhi, 16 September 2026: The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) successfully concluded the Teachers’ Training programme under its flagship programme, EN-Powered Schools today. Held on 15–16 September 2026 at the India International Centre, New Delhi, the capacity-building programme brought together 60 teachers from 40 schools across Delhi, transforming them into energy educators and ambassadors of sustainable living.

Organized by TERI’s Environment Education and Awareness (EEA) division, with support from BSES Yamuna Power Ltd., the programme is part of TERI’s ongoing mission to embed energy conservation and climate consciousness in everyday school life — starting with the people who shape young minds every day: teachers.

Two Days of Immersive Learning

Day One set the foundation, opening with a film capturing the EN-Powered journey, and a detailed project overview by Ms Monmi Barua, TERI. This was followed by an interactive energy quiz, "Power Up: Test Your Energy IQ!" facilitated by Ms Urvashi Prasad, TERI. Experts walked teachers through the journey of electricity — from power plants to classrooms — with Mr Munish Sharma, BSES, demystifying "Powering Delhi: How Electricity Reaches Our Schools & Homes." Sessions on renewable energy by Mr Ishaan Chandra Saxena, TERI, and on energy-smart, comfortable classrooms by Mr Piyush Verma, Environment Design Solutions, connected textbook science to real-world sustainability.

Day Two turned theory into action. An engaging session on activity-based learning by Ms Savitri Singh, ECE Consultant, demonstrated how energy concepts can come alive for young learners. Teachers then rolled up their sleeves for a hands-on, teacher-friendly guide to conducting energy audits in schools by Ms Saumya Pant and Mr Shubham Rai from TERI. A screening of the acclaimed documentary Katiyabaaz, a session on the experiential learning tool “Guardians of the Grid” by Ms Urvashi Prasad, TERI, and a module on EN-Powered Clubs rounded off the training — giving teachers ready-to-use tools to convert classroom ideas into school-wide action.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Livleen K. Kahlon, Senior Fellow & Director, Environment Education and Awareness, TERI, said, “Teachers have a vital role in nurturing energy-conscious and environmentally responsible young citizens. TERI seeks to equip educators with the knowledge and tools to bring energy and climate action into everyday school life.”

Mr Parthasarathi Changdar, Additional Vice President, BSES Yamuna Power Ltd., in his Special Address, added, “Saving energy is not just about saving electricity; it is about building a more sustainable future. Through EN-Powered Schools, we are proud to support efforts that inspire teachers and students to make responsible energy choices and turn awareness into everyday action.”

The moment of pride came with the felicitation of teachers, recognizing their commitment to championing the energy cause in their schools. The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks and Way Forward delivered by Ms Taru Mehta, Senior Fellow & Associate Director, EEA, TERI, who said, “With the completion of the training, the teachers are now ready to take the learning back to their schools through EN-Powered Clubs and student-led action. We look forward to seeing these ideas translate into meaningful change. The programme wouldn’t have been possible without support and commitment from BYPL and MCD.”

What’s Next

With their training complete, these teachers will return to their schools to establish EN-Powered Clubs, and mentor students as the next generation of energy-smart citizens — taking forward TERI’s vision of a sustainable, energy-conscious India, one classroom at a time.
