Discussion Brief: Sustainable Land Futures for Utility Scale RE Expansion in States: Case Study of Rajasthan

As India advances its renewable energy ambitions, strengthening land governance will be critical to facilitating sustainable and inclusive project development. Building on the findings of the accompanying research, this discussion brief presents key insights and policy recommendation to support responsible land procurement for utility-scale renewable energy projects. Using Rajasthan as a case study, the brief highlights approaches that can enhance stakeholder participation, promote efficient land use, and strengthen livelihood opportunities. While grounded in the Rajasthan experience, the recommendations offer broader lessons for other states seeking to expand renewable energy in a manner that is socially responsive, environmentally sustainable, and aligned with India's long-term development and climate goals.
