The increasing emergence of Distributed Energy Resources, including local storage, Electric Vehicles, and Demand Response at the distribution level is expected to bring new operational issues and challenges for the existing power distribution system
On 24th October 2020, 02:30 PM - 04:30 PM IST
The power sector in the country is undergoing supply side as well as demand side transition. Concerted efforts to bring in operational efficiency and competition at the generation, transmission as well as distribution level have paid dividends. The increasing emergence of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), including local storage, Electric Vehicles (EVs) and Demand Response (DR) at the distribution level is expected to bring new operational issues and challenges. Therefore, it is necessary to examine the technical and operational issues and challenges from a holistic perspective. DSO and planning would, therefore, demand a serious discussion well in time before it assumes critical importance.
However, awareness and appreciation in regard to these has so far been limited to a handful of stakeholders at the central and state level. As the Distribution System Operator will assume critical importance in the coming years, as part of the UI-ASSIST team, TERI and IIT Delhi are organizing a webinar to discuss the emerging need, roles and responsibilities of Distribution System Operator (DSO) in the Indian context.
