About the event
TERI is organizing an event entitled "Waterproofing: A Green Feature" on July 29, 2016 between 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Knowledge Centre, 3rd Floor, NMMC Head Office, CBD Belapur, Navi Mumbai. This event has been planned under the Eco-city forum for Green Buildings. This forum is part of TERI's ongoing Eco-city project in collaboration with NMMC (Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation) since 2012.
Building construction is on its peak in Navi Mumbai. Significant rise of 36% has already been observed in the number of properties since 2007-2008 as per the ESR 2014-15 (Environmental status Report) of NMMC. With the increasing speed of construction and the heavy rainfall observed in Navi Mumbai, the quality of construction equally needs to be monitored so as to live in and promote sustainable growth of the city. More importantly, to be able to improve on the quality of construction, building materials and products are required to be chosen with utmost care and imperative background study. Similarly, all these products should be dovetailed with the timely treatments undertake to avoid the damages and hence reduce on the maintenance required throughout the life of the building.
Sustainability cannot be achieved 100% but our timely and appropriate actions may definitely take us closer to it. Waterproofing is one such significant component of the construction process which is unavoidable and is necessarily to be done for the new as well as the existing buildings. The same also helps prolong the lifespan of the building. Thus, one can make the buildings more sustainable by adopting sustainable approaches to waterproofing and making your structures rain ready.
The upcoming event aspires to initiate a dialogue amongst all the stakeholders regarding the best waterproofing sustainable practices/approaches for the new and existing constructions, common concerns faced by the residents, exploratory discussions on the various cutting edge waterproofing products and new techniques available in the market. The event essentially emphasize on the fact that, waterproofing is a green approach in itself.
