UTTAM PRANAAM BIO NANO PHOSPHORUS

22nd April 2024: Dr Vibha Dhawan, DG- TERI - The Energy and Resources Institute launched biogenic nano Phosphorous (nanoP) with the commercial partner Chambal Fertilisers and Chemicals Limited under the brand name UTTAM PRANAAM BIO NANO PHOSPHORUS.

The product, developed by the team of researchers and bio-fermentation specialists under the guidance of Dr Pushplata Singh, is a unique and a power packed formulation of more than a billion nanoparticles for supplying Phosphorous to plants. Additionally, it has multiple other Nutrients including Calcium, Sulphur, Manganese, Magnesium and potassium, that make crops healthy and resistant to abiotic and biotic stress. Enabled with the PEB technology, and possible mode of application through fertigation, seed treatment and Foliar application, Bio- Nano-P is going to be a game changer for enhancing Nutrient use efficiency (NUE) of P fertilizers.

The nanoP product shows yield benefit on treatments of seeds, roots and foliage. Seed treatment and root dipping helps in quick absorption of nanoPhosphorous nanoparticles. With such a treatment the seed becomes healthy and stores a good supply of Phosphorous for a good vegetative growth of the plant. The second treatment is foliar treatment at 40-50 days after sowing, which boosts reproductive growth, flower and seed setting.

The size of nanoP nanoparticles is 10-15 nm, which remains stable under various environmental condition. The problem with convention phosphatic fertilizers is they get fixed in the soil and only ~20% of the applied amount gets taken up by the plant. Conventional phosphatic fertilizers, therefore, pollute the soil, change the soil structure and make it dead, unsuitable for sustenance of beneficial rhizospheric microbes, and ultimately affecting crop yield. On the contrary, nano P nanofertilizer shows NUE of ~90-95%, and the remaining ~5-10% even if it falls on the soil remains stable on all different kinds of soil, with different pH, and salinity status and gets absorbed by the plants in 1-2 days.
