Training of Trainers programme for the Rural Sanitation Sector

TERI, a National Key Resource Centre, of the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Government of India, organized the 'Training of Trainers' Programme in Rural Sanitation Sector' in Jaipur, Rajasthan, from 16-18 April 2013. The programme consisted of a two-day training session in the sanitation sector (16-17 April 2013) followed by a field visit on 18 April 2013. The participants were CEOs of Zilla Panchayat, District Sanitation Coordinators, and Block Coordinators from Rajasthan.

The training programme was inaugurated by Mr Rajesh Kumar Bansal, Director, CCDU, Sanitation, Jaipur. Mr Bansal brought to the attention of the participants, the progress made by the state in the sanitation sector and emphasized on the need for behavioural changes in the rural population. Mr Rakesh Johri, Senior Fellow, TERI, welcomed the dignitaries and participants of the training and set the theme of the three-day training programme on sanitation. Mr S K Agarwal, Superintendent Engineer, PMUSSO, Jaipur, gave the keynote address. Dr Girija Bharat, Fellow, TERI, gave the vote of thanks.

The third day of the training involved a field trip to rural sites of Mehla village, which was Nirmal Gram in the year 2008. This trip was led by Dr Girija Bharat, TERI, and Dr Anil Kumar, Consultant HRD, Sanitation, Jaipur. The training was highly appreciated and the TERI team has been requested to conduct similar trainings in all the zones of Rajasthan.
