TERI, in partnership with Education New Zealand (ENZ), organized a two-day Regional Round during 31 August-1 September 2017 as part of 'New Zealand-India Sustainability Challenge'(#NZISC), an innovative and a first-of-its-kind competition, connecting students from India and New Zealand. The objective of this challenge is to encourage scalable and sustainable solutions to address environmental and societal challenges.
More than 200 students applied for this challenge. Of these, 35 youth pursuing under graduation in Delhi NCR, who are active leaders in sustainable development in their communities and regions, participated at the Regional Round held at TERI, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.
The occasion was graced by the presence of Dr Ajay Mathur, Director General, TERI; Mr Prabir Sengupta, Distinguished Fellow and Director, Knowledge Management Division, TERI; Mr Tim Markwell, New Zealand High Commission, New Delhi; and Ms Jugnu Roy, Country Manager-India, Education New Zealand, amongst others. Followed by Delhi, ENZ and TERI will be hosting two more regional competitions in Bengaluru and Mumbai, respectively. Two teams will be selected from each Regional Round.
The finalists (6 teams from across India) will get an opportunity to work alongside their New Zealand counterparts to develop scalable and sustainable solutions to problems facing the environment and society. They will also be in touch with the faculty from identified academic institutes in New Zealand.
