Hon'ble Union Cabinet Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal launched the National Centre of Excellence in Green Ports and Shipping (NCoEGPS) Portal at the "Powering the Blue Economy – Viksit Bharat with Budget 2025" event in Mumbai. This landmark initiative, a collaboration between the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW) and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), marks a significant leap towards fostering sustainability within India's maritime sector.

The NCoEGPS Portal serves as a premier digital hub for green ports and sustainable shipping. It offers a comprehensive repository of resources, including best practices, digital tools, and cutting-edge research, designed to empower stakeholders across the spectrum. From port and shipping industry officials and government agencies to academia and civil society, the portal facilitates seamless knowledge sharing and collaboration.

The portal's core objectives are to:

  • Accelerate the adoption of sustainable maritime practices
  • Enhance the efficiency of port and shipping operations
  • Provide a centralized platform for knowledge dissemination and innovation

The launch event witnessed participation from over 200 key stakeholders, demonstrating strong industry engagement in green shipping initiatives. Distinguished dignitaries, including Mr TK Ramchandran, Secretary, MoPSW, and other senior officials, graced the occasion including Mr TK Ramchandran, Secretary, MoPSW; Mr R Laksmanan, Joint Secretary, MoPSW; Mr Rajesh Sinha, Additional Secretary, MoPSW; and Mr AS Vijay Kumar, IWAI Chairman.

The establishment of the NCoEGPS Portal underscores the government's unwavering commitment to environmentally responsible maritime growth and innovation, paving the way for a greener and more sustainable future for India's ports and shipping industry.
