Fifteenth Darbari Seth Memorial Lecture
TERI held its Fifteenth Darbari Seth Memorial Lecture to pay homage to TERI's Founder Late Mr Darbari Seth. The event started with the address of Dr Ajay Mathur, Director-General, TERI, in which he said, "Mr Darbari Seth established TERI as a tool for transition to clean energy. He practised what he preached. TERI's research work today is aimed at producing solutions that create a transformative impact. Our work carries forward the philosophy, vision and values of Mr Seth."
Presiding over the ceremony, Mr Jayant Sinha, Hon'ble Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Government of India stated that policy, innovation, and financing are integral to sustainability. He further added that there was a need to bridge the financing gap in equity risk capital.
This was followed by a lecture on the 'Role of Business in Shaping and Leading in Sustainability', delivered by Mr R Mukundan, Managing Director, Tata Chemicals. Mr Mukundan said, "There is a need to imbibe societal developments in our business processes. Initiating community development and environment sustainability shall enable companies to build business-friendly societies, which will lead to a profitable future."
"There is a need for holistic framework of action which integrates sustainability with business operations thereby creating long-term values for all stakeholders," said Mr Ashok Chawla, Chairman, Governing Council, TERI, who addressed the audience at the Lecture. He added, "What is sought to be achieved is to make TERI even more relevant in the policy space and to help industry capture tomorrow's technology"
The audience comprised representatives from NGOs, governments, corporates, and academicians, who paid homage to the late Mr Darbari Seth -the founder of TERI, and also known as 'the man with the Midas touch'.
