Felicitation Ceremony - Ocean Matters (Safeguarding Our Oceans) Phase II
As the culminating highlight of Ocean Matters: Safeguarding Our Oceans (Phase II), the Felicitation Ceremony will bring together young ocean champions, educators, and partners to honour their efforts in promoting ocean stewardship and data-driven climate action. This event marks a celebration of community-led impact in strengthening marine ecosystems and building coastal resilience.
The ceremony comes against the urgent backdrop of rising sea levels and increasing climate vulnerability. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Sixth Assessment Report warns that sea level rise in Asia is accelerating faster than the global average. Indian coastal cities like Mumbai, Kochi, and Chennai are expected to see significant inundation by the end of the century, with severe implications for communities and ecosystems alike.
In response, the project adopted a science-based, two-pronged approach: collecting critical data on climate indicators using the GLOBE protocol and assessing marine plastic pollution through Microplastic Monitoring. These efforts have not only built a foundation for evidence-based awareness campaigns but also empowered youth and communities to take informed action for healthier oceans.
Join us as we recognize the dedication and innovation of those working tirelessly to safeguard our oceans—because protecting our blue planet begins with collective resolve and local leadership.
