India’s first Centre of Excellence on Energy Transition (CoEET) was established in 2025 at TERI’s Institute of Energy Transition (IoET) campus in Hyderabad with the support from Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, Government of India. The Centre is envisaged as a world-class knowledge hub that would undertake research, analysis, studies and capacity building on various aspects of energy transition.

Emerge as the national and global hub for knowledge exchange, capacity building and innovation for accelerating energy transition by delivering scalable and impactful solutions for sustainable development.
Thrust Areas
- Conduct research and studies in energy transition including emission reduction solutions in industries, buildings, transport, power, etc.
- Policy and regulatory recommendations on implementing energy efficiency policies in various sectors
- Training programmes and workshops for capacity-building
- Support in increasing efficiency in electricity generation, transmission, and distribution
- Facilitate development of testing facilities and methodologies, and integration of IoT/AI-enabled real-time energy monitoring
- Evaluate the impact of energy transition on employment, economic growth, and environment
- Conduct research studies for promoting circular economy
- Support for validation, demonstration and facilitate adoption of clean-technology
Key projects
Currently the Centre is working on the following research projects:
- Estimation of sustainable level of per capita electricity and energy consumption in line with Mission LiFE
- Development of a Regulatory Compendium and Gap Assessment Study under the Energy Conservation Act, 2001
- Integrating Variable Renewable Energy in India’s Electricity Sector Transition towards Net-Zero by 2070: Policy and Regulatory Roadmap
- Navigating bottlenecks and creating opportunities in India’s energy transition with a focus on selected sectors
- Supporting Energy Data Management Unit (EDMU) at BEE.
