Integrated Development of Village for Social Development- Model Village
The CSR project funded by The Security Printing & Minting Corporation of India Ltd. (SPMCIL) and implemented by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) was strategically formulated on the above-mentioned concept i.e. Integrated Rural Development for Environment Sustainability and Social Development. As part of our commitment to integrated development, TERI is developing a model village in Siroliya, Madhya Pradesh. The project encompasses various elements, including rejuvenating village ponds by engaging community participation with an overall sustainability plan, waste management solution, strengthening public health centres, skill development programs for youth, etc. We aim to provide practical solutions to the community's needs by addressing situational analysis and implementing CSR activities. In the context of climate change, plantation activities have multiple benefits such as carbon sequestration, reducing global warming, and preventing water overflow and erosion. Therefore, the project includes plantation initiatives in different areas of the village.
Engagement of the panchayat is a crucial aspect of project execution in any village. TERI has conducted multiple consultations with the panchayat group to establish a supportive system. We have communicated with government officials at the panchayat level, explaining the community-level interventions, their relevance, timeline, and long-term benefits. The progressive panchayat group has shown immense interest in the project, and the project team and the villagers jointly progress efforts. The panchayat members have provided valuable inputs, including identifying resources for development and sharing information about beneficiaries, current interventions, and community awareness. Women-led Self-Help Groups (SHGs) are increasingly utilized as platforms for delivering development activities. As part of our integrated development approach, TERI aims to strengthen these groups through training and resources such as Dona Pattal making, Coconut oil making, Potato chips making, Agarbatti making, stitching, etc. Additionally, the proposed activities such as the provision of furniture, water storage tanks, and wall paintings for Anganwadi Kendra’s to support socio-economic conditions and foster community ties are in progress. After extensive discussions and obtaining necessary approvals from the panchayat members and relevant government authorities, the groundwork for infrastructural development has commenced. The subsequent sections of the project progress report provide a detailed overview of the progress made under each intervention.
