The Indian government has proposed to implement temperature regulations for air conditioning units in India. The Indian research and policy institute, The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), has found that operating air conditioners at a higher temperature, such as 27°C, can substantially lower electricity consumption and costs compared to lower temperature settings like 18°C. A first of its kind study in Faridabad shows that the NCR city's air is a swirl of road and construction dust, and industrial and vehicular emissions the three largest contributors to pollution throughout the year. The study, conducted by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) for Municipal Corporation of Faridabad under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), estimated that road and construction dust contributes up to 51% of PM10 pollutant.

TERI has proposed a 12-month feasibility study on AgriPV with storage (battery/small hydro) for tea gardens in Darjeeling, Sikkim and Northeast. GIZ offered support for pilot projects. AgriPV allows simultaneous crop production and solar generation, increasing land efficiency by 60 per cent.

Mr Sharif Qamar, Associate Director at TERI, highlights that TERI's research, which informed the Railways' Rail Green Points initiative, shows rail is four times more energy-efficient than road transport—even with today’s coal-heavy energy mix. A modest1% improvement in efficiency at sources like thermal power plants can lead to significant savings by reducing coal use and improving the grid’s emission factor.

The roads of Delhi and eight other cities in the National Capital Region (NCR) will undergo a redesign to make them dust-free, which will help in improving public health, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) said. A 2018 The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) source apportionment study also found dust to be playing a significant role in the summer months, contributing to around 42% to PM 10 in the season.
