Ayodhya’s Waste-Climate Solutions Workshop II
On October 25, 2024, TERI, in collaboration with VITO and AKTU, organized and conducted a workshop on "Ayodhya Waste-Climate Solutions” in Ayodhya as part of the project “Climate Resilience and Resilient Governance in India”: a pilot of capacity building and awareness in Ayodhya sponsored by G-STIC.This workshop provided a learning platform to the stakeholder engaged in Ayodhya’s waste management practices. It introduced the a MSW-Dashboard—a pioneering tool created by TERI and VITO to improve waste management through monitoring of key performance parameters. By facilitating an interactive space for learning and feedback, the workshop empowered participants to tailor the Dashboard to meet Ayodhya’s unique waste management needs.
The event welcomed active participation from Ayodhya Nagar Nigam’s Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner, Municipal councilor, IT cell officials, sanitary inspectors, and representatives from NGOs including Divine, ITC, and Chintan etc. The workshop began with a welcome address from Dr. Suneel Pandey, Director of the Circular Economy and Waste Management Division, setting a tone and emphasizing the role of the workshop in shaping Ayodhya’s waste management landscape. Mr. Santosh Kumar Sharma, Municipal Commissioner of Ayodhya Nagar Nigam, inaugurated the session, underscoring the importance of climate-responsive waste solutions and Ayodhya’s commitment to sustainable practices in line with local and national environmental goals.
Ms. Shweta Gautam, TERI provided an overview of the project. She also introduced the participants to the use of Dashboard - an innovative tool aimed at enabling transparent, data-driven waste management. Ms. Gautam emphasized that the Dashboard is designed to help Ayodhya track waste management metrics on various performance indicators, fostering efficiency, and informed decision-making in the city's waste management practices. The workshop concluded with a field visit led by Dr. Dinesh Chander Pant, TERI , who guided participants through a TERI-installed biogas facility. He explained the facility’s operations, noting its planned expansion to include a biogas-powered engine for street lighting and support for the nearby Material Recovery Facility (MRF).
The session concluded with Dr. Pant delivering a vote of thanks, marking the closure of a productive day dedicated to advancing sustainable waste practices that align with Ayodhya’s environmental needs.
