India is a diverse country with diverse energy consumption patterns in different sectors. Among these sectors, the building sector consumes around 38% (~208 mtoe) of India’s total annual primary energy consumption and 31% (296 TWh) of the total annual electricity consumption. Within the commercial sector, the current built-up area is roughly 1.4 billion square meters.

| Cities
The Asia-Pacific region is undergoing an unprecedented wave of urbanization, with over half of its 2.2 billion people currently residing in cities. Already constituting half of the world's urban population, projections suggest that this number will grow by 50% by 2050, resulting in even greater infrastructure needs and escalating carbon emissions.
Sustainable Aviaton Fuel Roadmap for India

| Energy
| Transport
Fossil fuel-sourced Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) has significant environmental impacts along its well-to-wheel chain. In 2021 aviation accounted for over 2% of global energy-related CO2 emissions, having grown faster in recent decades than road, rail or shipping. The estimated consumption of ATF for international operations by Indian operators is expected to reach around 2.2 million tonnes by 2030, while that for domestic operations, it will reach 10.1 million tonnes during the same period.
Comparative LCA Between Powertrain Components of ICE Vehicles Versus EVs

Manufacture, promotion and adoption of EVs seem to be one of the top priorities of government all across the world including India when it comes to green measures. The aim of this project is to quantify the benefits associated with such a switch compared to the traditional option of using ICE vehicle powertrain and fuel in Indian roads. The upstream manufacturing of EVs is both resource and energy intensive while there is also an inflexion point beyond which EVs have to be driven to become environmentally competitive with ICE vehicles.
Sustainability Assessment of Vehicle Fuel

The Environment Education and Awareness (EEA) Area at The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) has designed a summer programme that enables school students to gain knowledge, enhance their skillsets and obtain access to resources and networks to strengthen their competencies on issues related to environment and sustainable development. Technical sessions by subject experts, hands-on training, internship opportunity and mentoring on sustainability-linked topics are some of the key activities curated within this holistic programme.
Roadmap for India's Energy Transition in the Transport Sector
April 4, 2023
| Energy
| Transport
Transportation plays a pivotal role in the economic an social development of a country, carrying men and materials, such as- carriage of raw material and finished product; minerals; food and other essential products; and services, opening new avenues of employment opportunities. The main sources of energy for transport are diesel and petrol; alternative fuel technologies are relatively more expensive for an extensive use. Both cost and availability of alternative fuels have been a significant factor in the unprecedented growth of petroleum product demand for the transport sector.

At the COP 26 Climate Summit in Glasgow, India set an ambitious target of attaining net-zero emissions by 2070 and a 45% reduction in the emissions intensity of its GDP below the 2005 levels by 2030. The transport sector holds responsible for 14 percent of energy-related CO2 emissions, and it also accounts for 70 percent of total diesel consumption and 100 percent of gasoline consumption.[1]

India is undergoing rapid urbanization, with its urban population expected to surpass its rural population by 2031. This process has been accompanied by a gamut of social, economic, and environmental changes, including increased greenhouse gas emissions and the potential for greater vulnerability to the impacts of climate change. One of the main challenges Indian cities are facing as they grapple with adversities is the need to adapt to extreme weather events. These events can have significant impacts on public health, economic productivity, and infrastructure.
