Delhi/NCR experiences high air pollution for most part of the year, especially during winters when episodes of extreme air pollution are witnessed. The condition worsens due to adverse meteorological conditions such as low wind speeds (typical of winter season), which have adverse health outcomes, such as increased respiratory disorders and cardio-vascular problems.
In response to a similar situation in 2016, TERI had submitted an Emergency Action Plan for immediate control of pollution levels. Later, MoEFCC notified the implementation of the Graded Response Action Plan, which specified the actions to be taken during severe emergency levels of pollutants in the city.

No single measure can be the answer to maintaining air quality of Delhi at all times of the year. The infographics below present the pollution sources and action chart with expected impact for Delhi in both summer and winter. This can provide inputs to policy makers and city administration on the measures that need to be taken to control air pollution in the city in a given situation.
