Van Panchayats are one of the oldest participatory forest management institutions in India formed under Section 28(2) of the Indian Forest Act 1927. Their management has undergone several changes since their inception, yet, certain regulatory and jurisdictional challenges still exist. One of these challenges is the need of better coordination between the Revenue and Forest Departments on role and recognition of Van panchayats. This webinar would deliberate on the issues of overlapping regulatory regime and multiplicity of institutions in the context of Van Panchayats of Uttarakhand.
