TERI Mumbai has been engaged by The Ocean Cleanup Interception B.V. (Netherlands) to support Phase 1 of a landmark 30-city global study on riverine plastic pollution. With major urban centres spanning South-eastern Asia, South America, Central America, the Caribbean, and North America, the study aims to generate a globally comparable evidence base on riverine plastic pollution and the effectiveness of existing cleanup interventions.
The Challenge: Urban Strain and Waste Accumulation
The Aravalli Range is among the world’s oldest geological features, stretching 692 km from Palanpur in Gujarat through Rajasthan and Haryana to Delhi. For eons, this mountain system has acted as a primary ecological barrier against the expansion of the Thar Desert and a critical watershed for Northwest India.
The project 'Study on Microplastics in Yamuna River and Groundwater in Delhi' was commissioned by the Department of Environment, Government of NCT of Delhi (GNCTD), and successfully completed during 2024–2025. This pioneering research was designed to quantify the presence of microplastics (MP) within Delhi’s aquatic ecosystems and to provide a scientific roadmap for mitigation.
The project “Study of Yamuna Frothing in Delhi” was commissioned by the Department of Environment, Government of NCT of Delhi (GNCTD), and was successfully completed during 2024–2025. This comprehensive study was designed to investigate the complex causes of seasonal frothing in the Yamuna River and to develop a robust roadmap for its mitigation.

Capacity Building and Training of Forest Officers and Frontline Staff for Assessment of Carbon Stock in the Grassland Ecosystem for Developing a Carbon Finance Project in Maharashtra
In April 2025, TERI, in collaboration with the Maharashtra Forest Department, successfully conducted a comprehensive capacity-building workshop in Nashik focused on assessing carbon stocks in grassland ecosystems. This initiative aims to unlock the potential of Maharashtra's grasslands as vital carbon sinks, contributing to the fight against climate change and promoting sustainable land management.
Paradip Port is a natural, deep-water port on the East coast of India in Paradip, just 53 km (33 mi) from Jagatsinghpur city in Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha, India.
Agriculture sector plays a vital role in the Indian economy, employing nearly half of the country's workforce and contributing significantly to GDP growth. It not only provides food security but also supports various allied industries, such as textiles, food processing, and agrochemicals. Despite challenges like unstable market and climate change, agriculture remains a crucial driver of rural development, poverty alleviation, and overall economic growth.
Commissioned by GPSR Arya Private Limited, this project focuses on the districts of Lakhimpur Kheri, Ayodhya, Sultanpur, Deoria, Shravasti, and Basti (Uttar Pradesh); Kamareddy and Karimnagar (Telangana); Cooch Behar (West Bengal); Bemetara (Chhattisgarh); and Jajpur (Odisha), including their respective tehsils and blocks.
