TERI implemented smart solar-powered agricultural pumping and pesticide management systems in Karnataka, India, representing a major advancement in promoting sustainable and affordable farming solutions for small and marginal farmers. Funded by EKOenergy, Finland, the initiative addressed critical challenges in irrigation and pest management by introducing clean, renewable energy technologies.
Energy Wise Energy Rise (EWER) is TERI’s flagship school-based sustainability initiative, implemented in partnership with BSES Rajdhani Power Limited. The program helps children navigate the vital links between energy consumption, pollution, renewable resources, and proactive environmental stewardship. Since its launch in 2018, EWER has worked across Delhi schools to cultivate awareness and drive behavioral change, empowering students to become informed, responsible citizens within their homes and communities.
In partnership with TERI-NERC, the Lok Bhavan campus in Assam has been transformed into a Zero Waste Campus, showcasing an integrated and sustainable waste management model.
The initiative ensures systematic segregation of waste into dry and wet streams, supported by an on-site Material Recovery Facility (MRF). Recyclable materials are processed efficiently, while organic waste is converted into compost, promoting circular resource use.
Forests provide a wide range of ecosystem services; however, it is inherently challenging to place a monetary value on many of these. As a result, the full contribution of forests to the economy is often unaccounted for, and decisions regarding the allocation of financial resources are frequently based only on the value of services with a clear price tag. It is essential, therefore, to undertake a comprehensive valuation of forest ecosystem services and provide these results to planners and policymakers.

GHG and Carbon in Tidal Marshes: A Blue Carbon Initiative in Chennai
As a key component of the TN-SHORE flagship program, this project—funded by the Department of Environment and Climate Change, Government of Tamil Nadu—focuses on short-term feasibility and baseline scientific assessments. By utilizing established methodologies alongside emerging cost-effective, scalable, and accurate technologies, the initiative seeks to provide a rigorous data foundation for coastal conservation.
Used Beverage Cartons (UBCs) represent a vital sustainable packaging solution, playing a key role in food preservation and the advancement of circular economy goals. Composed primarily of paperboard, polymers, and aluminum, UBCs are fully recyclable and are increasingly recovered through both formal and informal waste management systems across India.
In Gorakhpur, many rural and semi-urban communities face significant challenges when it comes to accessing reliable, affordable, and clean energy. This energy scarcity often forces local businesses and enterprises to rely on costly and environmentally harmful alternatives, which further exacerbate the difficulties faced by these communities. The lack of sustainable energy solutions can severely hinder economic growth and productivity, especially in sectors that depend on consistent and reliable power sources.
