Climate Finance Study for India

The objective of the project is to support the Climate Change Finance Unit, Economic Division, DEA under the Ministry of Finance for its climate finance discourse at international representations. It is realized that the current definition of climate finance is not conducive to supporting India with its climate goals and the international climate finance is coming much shorter than required.

Building infrastructure in India is estimated to grow at a rate of 6.6% per year between 2005 and 2030. The building stock is expected to multiply five times during this period, resulting in a continuous increase in demand for brick and other building materials. With rapid growth of brick production, the environmental aspects of brick making have become a serious concern that requires immediate action to control the emission.

This study would include the following activities:

(i) Data collection and assessment for the years 2005-2020;

(ii) Analysis of consumption and production of ODSs by application sectors such as refrigeration, foam, fire extinguishing, aerosol and solvent cleaning, mobile air-conditioning, metered dose inhalers sectors etc.

(iii) Estimation of GHG emissions of ODS used for the applications mentioned in point (ii) above for the year 2025;

Quantitative assessment of air pollution and climate change policy challenges

The objective of the project is to provide energy, air pollution and GHG emissions modelling results and calculations for India. The Deliverable includes but is not limited to: Policy scope - independent quantitative analysis and modelling analysis will cover the following areas within the IEA scope of work: Transport electrification and power sector clean energy transition; Energy efficiency air pollution and climate co-benefits; Clean cooking air pollution and climate co-benefits.

Strategic Partnerships for the Implementation of the Paris Agreement (SPIPA)

The primary aim of the project promoted by the grant is to support EU-India collaboration on the development of modelling capacities to improve the quality of modelling tools, and integrated modelling analysis frameworks in India. This overall objective is defined by the following benchmarks: Improving the knowledge of how climate modelling action in India relates to global and subnational low carbon development pathways, as well as to selected co-benefits of trade-offs of climate policy.
