Dr Syed Arif Wali is an Associate Director and Senior Fellow at the Land Resources Division of TERI, specializing in forest management and climate change mitigation. With a doctoral degree in Botany from AMU, Aligarh, he brings over 22 years of expertise in carbon forestry, community-based natural resource management, biodiversity conservation, and eco-restoration. His work integrates poverty alleviation through training, capacity building, and income generation.

Dr Wali has led national and state-level workshops for Indian Forest Service officers and Frontline Forest officials since 2006, focusing on climate change issues. He was the Principal Investigator for a successful CDM project in Uttar Pradesh, registered with the UNFCCC, generating carbon credits that benefit forest fringe communities. Additionally, he managed the Agriculture and Greening Program for Coal India’s CSR project, improving the livelihoods of 1250 households. He has also contributed to ecosystem revitalization projects with Aditya Birla Group, Hindalco, and has worked in Guyana on sustainable forest management, eco-restoration of mined lands, and establishing a biodiversity research center. His extensive publication record underscores his expertise and commitment to these vital areas.
