
Dr Raghab Ray is a Fellow and Area Convenor for both the Coastal Ecology & Marine Resources Centre and Water Technology areas at the TERI-North East Centre. He also currently serves as the Acting Centre Head of TERI Goa. A Marine Biogeochemist by training, Dr Ray brings over 16 years of experience with core expertise in Observational Oceanography and Carbon Sequestration pathways in shallow coastal ecosystems.
Dr Ray has held several prestigious research and consulting positions, including as a Scientist at Shell and Postdoctoral Fellowships in Japan, France, and Germany. He has worked as a Scientific Consultant for CIFOR and Centigrade Inc. At Shell, he led the Blue Carbon Programme and delivered commercial Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) projects in the Philippines, Brazil, and Senegal.
His professional contributions span technical due diligence, feasibility assessments, development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), carbon and greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting, and Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) processes. He is also actively involved in drafting Technical Reports (TRs), Terms of Reference (ToRs), and Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for techno-commercial applications. Dr Ray has been the recipient of several prestigious fellowships and grants, including LabexMER (France), DAAD (Germany), and Shell.ai. He obtained his PhD in Marine Science from the University of Calcutta in 2013.
