Workshop on Critical Mineral Processing

The Centre for Resource Efficiency & Governance (CREG) division organized a workshop on Critical Mineral Processing on 19 December 2025 at the TERI office in New Delhi. Jointly hosted with the Indo-German Energy Forum Support Office (IGEF-SO), the German Federation of International Mining and Mineral Activities (FAB), ICF, and GIZ, the event focused on advancing Indo-German cooperation to strengthen critical mineral value chains in India. The workshop convened policymakers, industry leaders, and technical experts to deliberate on the challenges and opportunities within mineral processing and supply chains.
Mr Abhinav Jain (GIZ India) delivered the opening remarks, emphasizing that sustained collaboration between India and Germany is vital for achieving net-zero objectives. He highlighted the strategic role of critical minerals in enabling clean energy technologies and ensuring long-term energy security.
The keynote address was delivered by Shri Anshoo Pandey, Director of the National Critical Mineral Mission (Ministry of Mines). He outlined pivotal policy interventions and initiatives under the National Critical Mineral Mission designed to bolster exploration and processing resilience. He underscored the necessity of coordinated action among international partners to support India’s pursuit of self-reliance in this sector.
Technical insights were provided by Mr Archit Garg (ICF), who detailed technological bottlenecks in India’s processing landscape, and Dr Martin Wedig (FAB), who discussed securing raw materials through international partnerships to drive industrial transformation.
The workshop concluded with a roundtable discussion on the potential for collaboration between German and Indian mining ecosystems. Moderated by TERI and ICF, the session focused on the need for standardized frameworks and the adoption of global best practices to accelerate India’s energy transition.
