Oil India Ltd, Duliajan, (OIL) unavoidably generates enormous quantity of tank bottom oily sludge as well as oil/oily effluent soaked soil waste during drilling operations which constitutes a major challenge for hazardous waste management as well as environment management. Another problem lies while drilling operation. There is a requirement to transfer crude oil to adjoining pits due to the emergency activities of drill operation.

The project aims at development of efficient detection strategy of MIC (microbial induced corrosion) causing microbial strains in the pipelines so that the extensive damage is prevented by not allowing these microbes to colonize in the pipelines. Another strategy of work in this project is aimed to standardize a method to control the population of MIC causing microflora either by using biocides and/or by changing the nutritional regime. The outcome of the project will be very useful to the oil and gas industry.

The larger goal of the project is to develop green cover in the entire red mud ponds of HINDALCO, Muri and convert the red mud deposits, which is inhospitable for plants, to a substrate which will allow them to grow and develop by improving its physical and physico-chemical conditions, and removing the inhibiting substances by means of low-cost additives and treatments. The specific objectives of the assignment are: ? Standardization of plantation techniques and identification of suitable tree, shrub and grass species for red mud pond. ?

The scope of the study is defined around three main tasks: 1. The development of a taxonomy of barriers to low carbon technology transfer; 2. Further work on intellectual property rights (IPRs), including the development of policies that could help to overcome IPR barriers; and 3. Developing recommendations of mechanisms and technologies to foster joint research, development, demonstration and deployment (R,D,D and D) between developed and developing countries.
