Completed Projects
Harmful algal bloom toxins along the West Coast of India for preparedness in the event of a bloom
December 1, 2006 to
July 21, 2009
The objectives of the project are:o Mapping of algal blooms using participatory methodology with coastal stakeholders
o Collection of samples at regular intervals from the identified sites using standard techniques
o Identification of the blooms and the processing of the samples for the chemical characterization of toxins using modern analytical tools
o Identification and structural elucidation of marine toxins isolated from the samples
Preparing the energy sector dialogue and SAARC Energy Center capacity development
July 30, 2007 to
July 20, 2009
The overall expected outcome of the TA is the identification of the most appropriate energy development and trading opportunities to meet the growing energy demand in SAARC member states. The TA will also improve the viability of such development in the energy sector projects in the region by increasing awareness about appropriate incentives, technologies, and enabling environment.State of Environment Report for Delhi
February 15, 2007 to
July 16, 2009
This project funded by Department of Environment, Government of NCTD involves preparation of SoE report for Delhi following Pressure-State-Impact-Response (PSIR) framework and in the process updating earlier report prepared by TERI in the year 2001.Integrating environment, ecology and climate change concerns in Indian fiscal federalism framework
April 1, 2008 to
July 15, 2009
The terms of reference (TOR) of the 13th Finance Commission requires that it considers in its recommendations the need to “manage ecology, environment and climate change consistent with sustainable development.” This report aimed at contributing to this part of the TOR by examining how the Centre- State fiscal architecture needs to be reinforced to promote more environmentally sustainable development in India. The project suggests a framework for using intergovernmental transfers to improve environmental management and the quality of environmental services provision in India.Energy carrier of the fumeless future
February 1, 2007 to
July 10, 2009
With the finite sources of fossil fuel reserves, there is an urgent need to look into the different sources of renewable sources of energy. Biohydrogen production a microbial way of releasing stress is a possible way to exploit it for the production of the clean fuel hydrogen for commercial utilization and also a means to mitigate the ill effects of the fossil fuel based energy sources. The current limitation on biohydrogen production includes the low photo conversion rates, cost of bioreactors and less research work on economically viable substrates for the microbes that produce biohydrogen.Water and energy solutions for Sub-Saharan Africa
October 12, 2008 to
July 2, 2009
The objectives of this project are to:1. Improve overall system efficiency in municipal water systems, reducing costs and negative environmental impacts, while expanding water and wastewater services to the region’s underserved populations, specifically targeting the three pilot cities.
2. Build capacity of municipalities, water utilities, private sector companies and NGOs in the three cities focused on urban infrastructure development to develop a comprehensive strategy to work on identifying the potential energy savings from this often overlooked sector.

January 1, 2005 to
June 30, 2009
TERI has been one of the strategic partners of SDC since 1994. TERI and SDC have partnered in diverse research areas ranging from energy efficiency improvements in small-scale industries to global climate change. Continuous informal exchanges, openness and flexibility have been the hallmarks of the partnership. Projects focusing on improving energy and environment performance and socio-economic conditions of energy intensive small-scale industrial sub-sectors have been the flagship activity of the partnership.Energy audit at Dabur India Ltd.
July 1, 2008 to
June 30, 2009
The main objectives of the project is- To evaluate energy performance of various energy intensive equipments/process with a view to identify thrust areas for energy conservation.
- To recommend remedial course of action for improvement of efficiency in process/equipment to reduce the energy consumption with cost considerations.
- To quantify the extent of energy savings that can be achieved after analyzing the likely reasons for excess energy consumption based on the field measurements and data collected.
