TERI organized a two day exposure programme for DFID, India officials that focussed on various aspects of climate change. The programme sensitized the participants with latest developments on various issues related to climate change with a focus on science, mitigation, adaptation and policy aspects.

The Samaspur Bird Sanctuary located near Salon in Rae Bareli District of Uttar Pradesh comprises six wetlands; five of which are inter-connected and the sixth is a standalone water-body. The sanctuary, which hosts more than 250 resident and migratory birds and 46 fish species including several threatened species, is known for the migratory waterfowls visiting these wetlands during the winter season for feeding, nesting and breeding. A large population of the Indian Sarus crane, an endangered bird species venerated in Hindu mythology, also inhabit the area.

The project funded by the National Medicinal Plants Board, Government of India, envisages to establish herbal gardens in TERI, Supi, and Gual Pahari as regional resource centres of learning, wherein there is authentic and thorough documentation available of the natural and cultural heritage of the region relating to medicinal plants. Each herbal garden will be divided into four compartments, which include (1) conservation area; (2) plant multiplication or nursery management; (3) processing and product display zone; and (4) training, educational, and recreational area.

Myanmar is committed toenhance the social and economic lives of its rural people within the context of environmental restoration and greening on a sustainable basis. Towards this end, it is considered to set up the biomass gasifier system for supplying electricity for various applications, including pumping of water in rural areas. TERI has, in January 2004, installed a biomass gasifier at Kokke Village in Myingyan Township, Mandalay Division, Myanmar, for curing tobacco.

The project activities will include provision of extensive capacity building and technical assistance to the various stakeholders (including communities, local NGOs, state and district implementing agencies, etc.) in order to facilitate the implementation of the sanctioned 21 VESP subprojects in Assam and West Bengal.
