Greening young minds through experiential learning

Training Programme on Plant Tissue Culture for Meghalaya officials

Energy Security

The objectives of the research theme are as follows: General objectives : 1)Present the nature of energy security issue specific to the selected country and main impacts of energy insecurity at the household level 2)Analyse the responses of the main stakeholders to mitigate the impacts. Specific objectives : a) At National level: 1) Analyse the threats (present and future) to energy security, 2) Analyse the different measures/strategies for energy security in the context of the study country, 3) Study the impacts of the measures to improve energy security (past, existing and potential).

State of the Planet conference 2010- New Delhi

The India part of the sixth  State of the Planet conference will be hosted by TERI, on March 25, 2010 at the  Taj Mahal Hotel, New Delhi from 4.30 PM to 8:30 PM. The theme for the  session is "What is the basis of the Global Climate deal?". The  deliberations from this session will be fed into the session on "CLIMATE  CHANGE: What Would It Take to Complete the Climate Deal?" via live  satellite link.

Nuclear Energy Development in France and India: sharing experiences and learnings

Nuclear power development has gained significant importance for India due to the growing need for energy and the limited energy resource options. And with climate change science pointing to unsustainable patterns arising from conventional fuel usage, there are very few choices that remain for India to take in order to meet its large-scale energy demands. Nuclear energy remains as one of the mature and reliable options that India would like to tap for large-scale deployment. India plans to install 20,000 MW of capacity from nuclear power plants by 2020.

Adding value to coir pith waste by making into biomass pellets

Coir pith is the waste material obtained after using the coir from the coconut shells. This raw material has a lot of moisture, which needs to be removed for pelletizing and adding value to coir pith waste for use in gasifiers and stoves.

Green Jobs

TERI in the past 2 decades has undertaken several community based projects in various sectors which have lead to creation of green jobs - as those directly tied to the production of green products or services. The objective of the present study is to primarily give a framework to evaluate the direct and indirect effects of the green jobs. Consequently, it is proposed to develop the evaluation framework by selecting a few projects implemented by TERI.

Awareness and sensitization of students on waste management, water and energy conservation issues in two Government schools in Delhi

The discussed project aspires to impart knowledge, raise awareness and sensitize a select group of students to make the school premises energy efficient, zero waste zone and conserve water and harvest rainwater. The project will first result in capacity building of these students and slowly reach out to the entire school and other target groups through a multiplier effect. TERI will assist the schools in implementing the project in a sustainable manner, and will conduct all hand holding exercises.

Development of an Indicator for Impact of Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Strategies on Poverty Alleviation

The proposed study aims to develop an Index that measures the impact of climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies on poverty alleviation. The methodology developed in this study will then also be able to provide direction to assessing the impacts of climate change response strategies on other co-benefits. Thus, the Impact Index can serve as a background resource for decision-makers for policy planning & formulation, and for budgetary allocation.
