As of 2020, natural forests in India covered 44.4 million hectares, accounting for 15% of the country’s land area. In 2024 alone, India lost 150,000 hectares of natural forest—resulting in an estimated 68 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions. Every hectare lost weakens our resilience to climate change—conservation must be a shared responsibility.
