The rural sanitation sector in the country is undergoing shifts in its approach to achieve better outcomes. The Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) approach concentrates on achieving sanitary behaviour outcomes by the entire community aided by appropriate ways to ignite change, along with the recognition for communities securing the desired outcomes of an open defecation free environment. Thus the main objective of the CLTS is to end open defecation by the entire community thereby contributing to an overall improvement in the environment as well. The CLTS capacity building programme aided by the WSP, World Bank in Karnataka aims to undertake training of trainers programs at the district level through a 5 day training program to all stake-holders .
