World Water Day (WWD) 2026 highlights “Water and Gender Equality,” reinforcing that achieving SDG 6—clean water and sanitation for all by 2030—depends on empowering women and girls. Despite being central to water collection and management, they remain underrepresented in decision-making. This priority was first globally recognized in 1992 at the Dublin Conference, which affirmed women’s key role in safeguarding water and called for their equal participation at all levels of water governance.
