The Environmental and Industrial Biotechnology Division (EIBD), TERI in collaboration with the DSIR, Government of India, held a stakeholder consultation meeting under the theme, "Study the research on indigenous development of membranes system for sewage treatment by research academics, industries, and MSME's." On August 27, 2024, the gathering took place at the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) in Mumbai. The inauguration address was given by distinguished speakers Dr Banwari Lal, Senior Director, TERI; Professor Aniruddha Pandit, Vice-Chancellor, ICT; and Dr Ranjeet Bairwa, Scientist E, DSIR. Dr Veeranna C., Associate Director, TERI, provided an overview of the study's history. As subject matter experts, eminent researchers from ICT Mumbai, CSIR-CSMCRI, and Ion Exchange India Limited were invited. The meeting's goals included a discussion on the following:
During the meeting, a number of distinguished speakers from the industrial sector, such as Exposome, Fluid Sep Technologies, Hollowbrane Membrane Technologies MBR, and Saroj Tiny Tech India Pvt Ltd, shared their experiences in membrane technologies and talked about the state of the Indian membrane industry today and how it applies to wastewater. After insightful discussions on the topic, the meeting came to an end with an agreement to build a database of Indian universities, research facilities, and industry (MSME/startup) that are developing membrane technologies (Technology Readiness Level 6 and above) and their techno-commercial standing. Includes research at the R&D level as well as commercial field trials, commercial applications, and market competitiveness that promotes broad deployment in the context of the Technology Readiness Index (TRL) and potential for self-reliance.
