National Conference - Awareness on Climate Change, Health and Hygiene in schools of 11 Districts in Uttar Pradesh
Given the complex interrelationships among Health, hygiene, water resources, and climate change, schools—which are widely acknowledged as essential centres of learning and community involvement—need to be specifically targeted for intervention. These institutions are essential to creating climate resilience. In pursuit of this objective, TERI-UNOPS has initiated a collaborative endeavor the “Capacity Building Programme Targeting School Children on Climate Change, Health and Hygiene across 11 Districts of Uttar Pradesh, India”.
The project's goal is to provide children—especially teenage girls—the tools they need to properly manage and preserve water sources. It also aims to improve public Health in general and raise community awareness by incorporating climate change adaptations into the curriculum. The rationale behind this project becomes even more compelling when considered in the context of the unique difficulties relating to water, sanitation, Health, and climate change that the regions of Vindhya, Bundelkhand, and Prayagraj face as these regions are especially vulnerable because of the natural disasters.
The National Conference is being organised in New Delhi to conclude the programme, involving various stakeholders from ministries, UN agencies, schools and partners to share lessons from the field, exchange best practices from the project, and discuss scaling-up efforts.
