Master Trainers’ Workshop for Paryawaran Sanrakshaks
Ecosystems are under stress due to increasing threats from climate change, thus, requiring urgent interventions through restoration and adaptation activities. Human activities have degraded rivers, oceans, coral reefs, and land leading to disruptions in ecological balance within the web of biodiversity. Climate change compounds these impacts, altering species behaviour and breaking vital ecological links. Delhi faces critical environmental challenges.
Biodiversity and ecosystem services are essential for food, clean water, climate regulation, and pollination, making its protection critical. Urban green spaces like Delhi’s six biodiversity parks (Yamuna, Aravalli, Kamla Nehru Ridge, Tilpath Valley, Neela Hauz, and Tughlakabad) serve as natural solutions to enhance climate resilience, yet lack of public awareness, especially among students, remains limited and thus contributes to the steady decline in urban biodiversity. Promoting an understanding and stewardship through targeted awareness programs can bridge this gap and foster a generation of environmentally responsible citizens.
The Department of Environment, Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi has launched a prestigious project titled, “Sensitization Programmes on Understanding impact of Climate Change on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services for Eco-club Students” with a purpose to impart awareness and instil behavioural changes amongst the young citizenry. The focus will be to enhance the understanding about climate change and its impact on biodiversity as well as reinforce the role of ecosystem services in supporting adaptation measures. Other important aspects of air pollution and plastic management will also be included in the programme so that the students receive a holistic understanding about the environment status of the city they live in.
As part of the collaborative initiative between TERI’s Environment Education and Awareness Division and the Department of Environment, Government of NCT of Delhi, a Master Trainers’ Programme for Paryawaran Sanrakshaks is being organised on 4th July 2025.
