Dr R K Pachauri Commemoration Day

Dr Rajendra Kumar Pachauri (20 August 1940 – 13 February 2020), universally known as Patchy, was the First Director General of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). Under his leadership, TERI transformed from being a small fledgling, to having its own office in the India Habitat Centre in 1994. His tenure at TERI saw the massive expansion of TERI’s presence not only in the capital city but in other areas in India including a sprawling campuses in Gwal Pahari, Mukteshwar, Navi Mumbai, Bangalore, Goa and Guwahati. TERI became a leading international voice and the portfolio of research activities under the leadership of Dr. Pachauri and expanded to international domains in areas of applied sciences, policy analysis, advocacy, education programmes, rural energy provisioning, rating systems and technology development.

To recognize his visionary leadership, TERI is organising Dr R K Pachauri Commemoration Day on 20th August 2021, on the occasion of Dr Pachauri’s birth anniversary. The event will start with an introduction by Dr. Vibha Dhawan, Director General, TERI. Mr. Nitin Desai, Chairman, TERI will address TERI colleagues on this occasion, followed by reflection from Dr Pachauri’s family members. In addition, Dr Pachauri’s Archives – a collection of his works including writings, photos and videos – will be launched by Dr P K Bhattacharya, Senior Fellow and Associate Director, Knowledge Resource Centre. Early during the day, felicitation of colleagues who have completed 10/ 20 years in TERI will take place.
