6th Energy Management Action Network (EMAK) Workshop
TERI and the Institute of Energy Economics, Japan (IEEJ) with support from Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan (METI) organized the 6th Annual Energy Management Network (EMAK) Workshop on the theme 'Promoting Energy Efficiency in SMEs and Waste Heat Recovery Measures in India' on February 25, 2015 at Taj Palace Hotel, New Delhi, India. The event was attended by around 80 participants comprising entrepreneurs, SME industry associates, local service providers, technical experts, energy consultants, representatives from BEE, MNRE, PCRA, SIDBI, MSME-DIs, Ministry of Steel, public and private sector banks, Japanese research organizations such as IEEJ, ECCJ and Japanese companies such as Kawasaki, Hitachi, Nippon Steel etc. Participants from India, Japan and Australia contributed to local, national and international perspectives. Mr Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma, IAS, Secretary, BEE delivered the inaugural address.
The workshop explored the challenges and opportunities for promoting energy efficiency in Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) through the implementation of waste heat recovery measures in India. Presentations were delivered by highly respected national and international speakers. Participant perspectives on the challenges and opportunities for progressing energy efficiency in SMEs were encouraged through interactive small group discussions. Dr Patrick Crittenden, Sustainable Business Pty Ltd, Australia moderated these brainstorming table discussions. Attendees actively explored their perspectives on the 'challenges and solutions for promoting energy efficiency'. These interactions provided an opportunity to capture many insights and ideas from the floor while encouraging networking among attendees.
In the final session, a distinguished panel shared their perspectives on the issues raised throughout the workshop. Insights on energy efficiency policy and practice that emerged at the workshop were also presented to BEE, Ministry of Power. Mr Tomoyoshi Hisamori, Deputy Director, Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy Department, METI expressed appreciation for the speakers and attendees in his closing remarks.
