10th Asia Pacific RCE Meet & Symposium on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
The Environment Education and Awareness Area at TERI hosted the '10th Asia Pacific RCE Regional Meeting (AP RCE Meeting) at TERI, New Delhi, in conjunction with the 'Symposium on Sustainable Development Goals: From Goals to Action' from 2-4 November, 2017. The meeting was followed by a field trip to TERI Retreat, Gual Pahari, with the support from United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS) and the European Union (EU), REI Initiative.
The UNU-IAS acknowledged RCE Delhi in October 2008 and the Regional Center of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development in Delhi (RCE Delhi) has its Secretariat at TERI since then.
The 3-day programme witnessed participation of 65 delegates from 11 nations and 24 RCEs across the Asia Pacific region. The key dignitaries at the programme included, Mr Naoya Tsukamoto, Project Director, UNU-IAS; Mr Yasushi Nagami, Director, Office of Environmental Education, Ministry's Secretariat, Ministry of the Environment, Japan; and Dr Ashok Kumar Jain, Adviser (RD), NITI Aayog, Government of India, among others.
The AP RCE meeting and the symposium provided a regional platform to discuss, debate, and launch activities that reinforce the fundamental role played by education in achieving a sustainable future in the region. The meeting also aimed to take stock of regional initiatives, including the role of ESD in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular 3, 4, 7, 12, 13, 14, and 15 on the ground in the Asia Pacific region.
